"THE MUD"

A wise person once said, “I took a pig, bathed it, helped it, but in the end it still went back to the mud because that’s its place.” Few will understand that, many will not. Everyone is different, special, unique, and approaches information in the way they believe works best for them. I like to believe there are still many good people in this world, and while I hope others believe that too, I can understand why some might not. That quote can make you wonder—who have you helped, or who has helped you? If you’ve been the one helping, you may have questioned how someone can fall back into something so destructive, harmful, and painful, returning to situations with no chance of a happy ending. If you’ve been the one helped, or are still receiving help, you might also question the same things. These thoughts come not from hate, but from care. I love that quote for what it means to me. Many read it as the helper’s perspective, but some know they were or are the pig. That realization can hit hard. I’m not siding with those who choose to return to the mud, but I feel for both sides and find the dynamic fascinating. “Back to the mud” could be an addiction, which is often the most relatable example, but what if some truly wants to stay there? They might love the chaotic, wild, responsibility-free lifestyle.

That's not your fault...
